Teen Summer Reading Program

The fun begins July 6 to August 12

This year's program is a hybrid of grab-and-go activities that can be completed at home, and in-person programs. The fun begins on July 6, and ends with our finale on August 12. The Teen program is open to all rising 6th-12th graders. 

Book & Activity Packets

Pick up a free book to keep and an accompanying activity packet from the Information Desk on the main level, beginning July 6 and continuing throughout the summer!

Here is what you'll receive when you sign up for a book & packet: 

  • A free book to take home and keep!

  • A poll of your opinions about the book (come to the Teen Scene to how other people answered!)

  • A stargazing guide & constellation maps

  • A mindfulness scavenger hunt

  • Trivia 

  • Self-Guided Teen Nature Art & Photography Challenge

In-Person Events

Sign-ups are not required for in-person events. Food will not be served at events this summer. 

 

Thursday, July 8, 3-4 PM: Gardening Kickoff

Teen Summer Reading Kickoff! Plant flowers and herbs in the Teen Scene!

The "windowsill garden" will remain throughout the program.

Come back and watch your plants grow!

 

Thursday, July 22, 3-4 PM: K-Cup Bird Feeders

Create and take home a DIY bird feeder, made from recycled K cups! 

 

 

 

 

 

Thursday, August 5, 3-4 PM: Music Trivia

Are you faster than Shazam? Can you "name that song" before your friends?

Try your hand at music trivia in the Teen Scene, and win prizes!

 

Photography & Art Challenge entries displayed, temporary nature tattoos, and grand prize drawings!

 

 

 

 

 

Drop-In Programming

  • Come in and watch the windowsill garden grow!

  • Contribute to the collaborative heat map, tracking high temperatures in Exeter

  • Weekly trivia challenges with prizes

  • Write down titles you love when you return them, and add to the library-wide "idea garden!"

Teen Nature Art & Photography Contest

Are you a visual artist? Do you find yourself taking pictures outdoors? Do you love drawing your pets?

SUBMIT YOUR WORK TO THE TEEN NATURE ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY CHALLENGE!

Submissions will be displayed at the Teen Summer Reading Finale on Thursday, August 12 from 3-4 PM. Everyone who submitted work will win a prize at the finale! 

Prizes!

Grand Prizes: For every item (books, movies, etc) teens check out during summer reading, they receive raffle tickets that they can enter into raffles for the following grand prizes: 

  • $15 gift cards to Water Street Bookstore (3)

  • $15 gift card to Lexie's 

  • 24 oz. yellow Hydroflask

  • 10" Baby Yoda Squishmallow

  • 8" Maggie the Stingray Squishmallow

Checkout Prizes: Each time a teen checks out at the library during summer reading, they win an instant prize!

EBSCO  -  The service provides full access to articles, essays, primary source materials, and videos on many topics. A valid library card is required to access these databases.
Mango Languages - This is an online language learning resource. Mango Languages offers 71 language courses. Additionally, the service offers English lessons in 17 languages and specialty courses to teach cultural differences. Courses are accessible from a web browser or an app. First time users select "sign up" & add 4507 prefix to "card number".
