Set in 1970, a strict classics teacher at a New England boarding school is forced to chaperone a handful of students with nowhere to go on the Christmas break. He soon forms an unlikely bond with a brainy troublemaker, and with the school's head cook, a woman who recently lost a son in Vietnam War.
